Transformation of the Former Garrison in Košice

The proposal integrates the site of the former barracks into the urban fabric of the city. By preserving the original buildings along its perimeter, it creates a safe area protected from external influences (noise, traffic, etc.). Inside the block, we propose residential buildings that share spaces with national cultural monuments. The synergy between the historic and new structures creates an environment of unique character.

The enclosed site is transformed into a permeable block with a clear hierarchy of pedestrian routes, altering the established movement of both residents and commuters. The residential development is conceived as open/fragmented blocks that respond to vistas, natural light, and views of the original buildings. The symbiosis of unique architectural elements, greenery, and historic structures creates a new, interconnected urban residential landscape with diverse spatial characters.
